New Years Day Game Day Food
I love New Years Day. The new beginnings that it brings. I even love the new crisp planner that I get to start filling in all the open spots. But the one thing that makes New Years Day unique and exciting in our home is the Game Day and the Game Day Food. We love to crash on the couch, have football food and watch the games all day long. It is such a fun day at our house.
This year is a super HUGE special day on New Years Day. Georgia plays in the Rose Bowl. It is going to be a day that we get to wear our red and cheer Go DAWGS!
Game Day food is always fun to make and have throughout the day. I live in a household of some picky eaters. So when I am making my food plan, I have to make sure I have a good variety to cover all the likes.
Our Game Day Food Ideas
Wings and More Wings
We love wings. Wings seem always to show up when big games are on. Super Bowl, basketball playoffs, and New Year’s day. Our favorite wings are Momma’s BBQ or Bootleg BBQ, but with it being New Years Day this year that the big game will be on, I think we will need to make our own.
Crispy Baked BBQ Wings from A Night Owl Blog. She has some other amazing recipes as well as DIY projects. I follow her and love her ideas. She is simple and easy to follow. Be sure to check out her site.
Garlic Parmesan Wings are an excellent choice to have for the guest that doesn’t like BBQ.
Peanut Overload
Our family goes through so much peanut butter. We love peanut butter pie, peanut butter balls, peanut butter ice cream. The list can get long and somewhat ridiculous at how much we love recipes with peanut butter in them. Being from the south, we also like boiled peanuts, roasted peanuts, chocolate covered peanuts. I guess you are getting the idea now; we love peanuts in any shape or form.
I don’t think we could be tired of sweets yet from the holidays so this is going to be on my New Years Day Game Day Food list.
The other day I posted 15 Sweet and Scrumptious Chocolate and Peanut butter desserts. Did you have a chance to check it out?
Buckeye Peanut Butter Balls. It is some of our favorites. I cut down on the powder sugar because we like to taste the peanut butter more.
Peanut Butter & Ritz dipped in Chocolate. The perfect mixture of sweet, savory & salty. A batch of these is always a fan favorite.
Chips and Dips and more Dips
Who doesn’t like to just munch on chips and dips? I about died the other day when I went to buy Velveeta Cheese. When did the price skyrocket? Almost $8 for a loaf. Crazy. But for special occasions, it is worth it. Here are some of our favorite dips to have during the Game.
These recipes are on my Game Day board on Pinterest.
Beef & Cheese Queso. This is probably our favorite because of the pure flavors. Great to have in a crockpot for all day to snack on.
Creamy Spinach Dip. I love to add Artichokes to this recipe. It gives it that salty, crunchy flavor.
Cranberry Jalapeno Cheese Dip. This dip is so beautiful. Ladies love eating this because of how pretty it is, and guys like it because it packs a punch in the taste department.Your chips and dips also are fun to display and serve in football-themed serving dishes. I enjoy decorating for game day as well.
Meat and Potatoes
My boys and girl love their meat and potatoes. We love eating southern food, and if you know southern food, it contains meat and usually a potato. So why shouldn’t game day have meet and potatoes too?
We have to have meat and potatoes in our New Years Day Game Day Food.
Bacon wrapped Little Smokies. These little gems are so easy to make, and they are packed full of flavor and sweetness. You can do these in the oven or the crockpot.
20 Minute Potato Wedges This is probably one of my favorite recipes for Game Day because it is a fast recipe that everyone in our household loves. Potato wedges are filling and also easy to eat. Gina has a beautiful blog. Her photography is amazing and she has a free printable right now for a 2018 Coloring calendar that is so neat.
Taco Pizza Roll. This is one of the simplest recipes you can make. It is easy to do, and it looks great when put on a platter. People love grabbing these because they are finger foods that don’t make a huge mess but taste great.
Have you got your game face on yet?
Have you looked ahead and saw who was playing. It is important. You need to take a moment and check out the day. This Georgia girl is so excited about the Dawgs heading to the Rose Bowl. It is going to be a great game.
Don’t let the day slip up on you. Plan and get your menu ready. Your New Years Game Day food menu should be fun and full of flavor. You don’t want to spend the first day of the new year hustling around and trying to feed everyone. You want to be able to sit and cheer on your favorite team or if you are not a sports fan……. catch up on all the many Hallmark movies that came out this 2017 year.
Happy New Year everyone and Go Dawgs!!
