What Does It Mean to Have
The Heart of Hospitality
What does it mean to have the heart of hospitality? When you hear,” she has such a heart of hospitality”, what does that really mean? What is the message being said? This is not just an amazing compliment but a character trait that someone sees in you.
So what does it mean to have the HEART of Hospitality?
Webster defines it as one’s innermost central character, feelings or inclinations. Google has it defined as, the central part of something, the center, middle, hub, core, nucleus, eye bosom.
I think from both of these definitions, we can come to the conclusion that it is the core of someone or something.
Now, what is does Hospitality mean?
Starting with Google, it means the friendly & generous reception & entertainment of guest, visitors or strangers. Webster said hospitably is given to generous & cordial reception of guest.
So hospitality the act. The kind gesture of being generous & open to others.
Let’s mesh Heart & Hospitality together
So let’s put that together. A person’s innermost character that is to be friendly, generous & accepting of others.
I like how that sounds. Let me say it again.

So back to the original question. When someone says, she has the heart of hospitality, what does it really mean? I think it really means it is a lady that has spent time cultivating relationships, making her home inviting, sharing life with others and being approachable. It is someone just like me and someone just like you. It is not, as my mom would say, too far-fetched for anyone to have that title placed on them.
Cultivating the heart of hospitality for you might look a little different than me cultivating in my life. Hospitality looks different in each person’s life because of the gifts we have been given. But when seeking to cultivate it, you need to search deep in your heart, your core. Place the desire to be friendly, generous and accepting of others there. Let is be who you are and use the gifts you are given to put feet to your mission.
