Top 5 Essential Oils for Winter
Winter is in full swing here in the heart of Kentucky. We have gone several days below freezing, and my body is starting to feel the effects of the cold. I am by no means an expert on Essential oils. I also usually never jump on bandwagons very quick with items such as essential oils. But I have some essential oils that I have used over the past four years, and they have proven over and over to be useful and effective. I want to share with you my Top 5 Essential Oils for the winter. These are the oils I keep on hand at all times and even while traveling.
Top 5 Essential Oils for Winter
Lavender Oil
Lavender is probably the most versatile oils that I have in my collection. I used lavender oil alone and blended with other oils as well. It is my number one of the Top 5 Essential Oils for Winter.
Lavender has antibacterial, antidepressant and anti-inflammatory effects on your body. The oil works great in helping clear up stuffy noses, and it is great to help combat seasonal allergies. Lavender even fights against the common cold.
If you run a diffuser or a humidifier, you can put five drops in there an let it run while you are sleeping.
Be sure to check out some of the blends at the end for more great essential oils for winter.
Oregano Oil
Oregano essential oil is new to my set of oils. I have started using it about a year ago. The Oregano oil has very powerful immune-boosting, antiviral, antifungal, antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
Oregano oil helps your immune system get stronger to prevent illness and to ward off specific symptoms associated with the cold and flu even the sore throat. Oregano oil also enables you to relax and brings a calmness to help you sleep.
Oregano oil is considered a hot oil, so you want to mix with a carrier oil such as coconut oil or almond oil.
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil is a little bit of sunshine in a bottle for me. Peppermint oil is in my Top 5 Essential Oils for Winter because of the mood enhancer.
During the winter months, the days are shorter and grey and that brings on symptoms of depression, and anxiety peppermint oil is perfect to help lift the mood. I can see a difference in my mood, alertness and my outlook on the day when I use Peppermint oil.
You can add five drops in a diffuser or rub peppermint oil on the bottom of your feet. At the end of the post will be some blends that use peppermint oil.
Lemon Oil
Just like the Peppermint oil, the Lemon essential oil is a mood-boosting oil. The scent of lemons has the ability to boost your mood and alleviate your stress. It also has astringent and antibacterial effects.
I also use lemon in my home to clean. It removes germs and bacteria. I will mix up a little lemon and water and spray it on my countertops or my toilet seats and just let it dry. This kills germs and bacteria. It is great during the cold and flu season. You can also use it on your floors. Just don’t put the lemon directly on wood floors. This will take the finish off.
Just as a bonus, Lemon oil also has the unique ability to reduce your sugar cravings because it naturally reduces your desire to eat sweets. This is something that I use often in my water. I will put a drop in a large glass and sip on it all day long. It is lemon water in it’s purest form.
Frankincense Oil
Frankincense oil is one of the oils that just makes me feel good using. I think it is because I know it is a gift Christ received as a child so I hold it higher in the ranks of Essential oils. Frankincense is a great oil for helping the body repair itself. I use this oil to prevent scarring as well as wrinkles around my eyes. You can see a blend I use below.
Frankincense also has immune-boosting and purifying properties which can help to prevent you from getting sick during the winter season.
You can diffuse Frankincense to help boost your mood in the winter as well as lessen anxiety. I like using this oil when I am heading to bed after a hard day.
